"Maui Chefs Present," Lahaina

6:30 pm-10 pm. This 16th annual Maui food-lovers' tradition spotlights twelve of the island's most innovative chefs at an elegant themed dinner and cocktail party. Paid admission includes an evening of 24 gourmet dishes, wines and spirits, plus live entertainment. Co-sponsored with Ka`anapali Beach Resort Association. Benefits Maui Community College's Culinary Arts Program.

"Red, White and Blue Picnic," Amphitheater -- Keopuolani Park, Kahului

11am-3pm.  Near Maui Nui Botanical Gardens on Kanaloa Avenue in Kahului. Every two years just before the primary elections, the Sierra Club has a picnic and invites all the candidates to come and speak. It is a family event that features musical performances, a silent auction, a food service area, awards, and information tents. A good time is had by all.

6:00 pm, McCoy Studio Theater. The 7th Annual Richard Ho'opi'i Leo Ki'eki'e Contest brings together Hawaii's finest amateur falsetto performers in concert.

"Ku Mai Ka Hula: Hula Appears," MACC, Kahului

1:00 pm, Castle Theater. Third annual international hula competition featuring Japan hālau winners and hālau from Hawai‘i, presenting adult females and males in solo and group performances.

"Reggae in the Valley," MACC, Kahului

6:00 pm, On the Lawn, gates open at 5:30 pm. 4th annual reggae fest with FIJI and friends: Laga Saavea, J Boog, The Rushouze Allstars and Pi'ilani Arias.
Tickets: $30 in advance, $35 day of show plus fees.

Maui Academy of Performing Arts "20th Annual Garden Gala," Yokouchi Estate, Wailuku

A celebration of the arts brings together exceptional cuisine, fine wine, live jazz and an invigorating auction in a picturesque setting to benefit MAPA education and performance programs. The Garden Party's signature offering is Fresh Art - right in front of the eyes of meandering guests, the island's top artists create works of art to be auctioned off at the end of the event. This event is a 21+ event.

"A Dharma Talk by Anam Thubten," The Studio, Haiku

7:00pm-8:30pm, $15-$25.  Anam Thubten was born in Tibet and entered into Buddhist training in the Nyingma tradition at a young age. Among his teachers, he had a special affinity toward a very inspiring Dharma teacher named Lama Tsurlo, whose kindness and wisdom gave him the firm base to advance in his dharma practice. Anam Thubten was recognized as the reincarnation of Anam Lama, when he was quite young.

"Hike La Perouse Bay to Kanaio," Maui Sierra Club, Kihei

One of the most remote and beautiful areas on Maui. Visit anchialine ponds (unusual shallow ponds with tiny red shrimp) and archeological sites along the way. Bring bathing suit, lunch, water, hat and sunscreen. 8 mile roundtrip all day hike. This hike goes about 2 miles further south than our regular La Perouse Bay hike. Meet at Kihei Community Center (Lipoa Street & Piilani Highway) at 8:30 am to carpool. Leader: Bob Babson. Limit 18. Call Bob at 874-1166 to register.
