7:30-9:30pm, witness live spawning of rice coral in the romantic setting of aquarium after dark. Stations will be set up around the aquarium with microscopes and educational props to help explain the phenomenon of coral spawning and interpret the evening's events. The aquarium's largest exhibit, the Open Ocean Exhibit, will also be open, giving guests the rare opportunity of watching the sharks and rays during the transition from day to night.
Guest speakers will include Dave Gulko with the Department of Land and Natural Resources and Maui Ocean Center's Curator, John Gorman.
A robotic underwater camera, provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, will be in the Discovery Pool during the event and sending back live imaging of coral spawning!
