THE MAUI MULTI-CULTURAL COUNCIL

A community project of the Department of Housing and Human Concerns

County of Maui

ANNOUNCEMENT

"MAUI 98 - Faces From Around The World"

The first Maui Multi-Cultural Calendar, featuring exquisite color photographs of Maui's ethnic and cultural diversity, has just been published.

The calendars, which sell for $8.00 each, are a project of the Maui Multi-Cultural Council, which is staffed by the County of Maui, Department of Housing and Human Concerns. The calendar is very unique, as it features important cultural, religious, commemorative, historical and celebratory dates for Maui's ethnic communities. The calendar is not only colorful, but full of interesting historical photographs and interesting tidbits. The calendar makes an excellent holiday or birthday gift.

Oh, don't forget to get one for yourself.

To order, please call John A. H. Tomoso at 808-243-7358.

The Maui-Multi-Cultural Council, which meets monthly at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center, is composed of over 50 ethnic and cultural organizations from the Maui community. It's mission is "To raise levels of understanding and respect among all of Maui's ethnic and cultural groups, thereby encouraging cultural pride, cultural sensitivity and positive community action."

Maui is a very ethnically and cultural diverse island. Its communities and neighborhoods reflect all the colors, sights, smells, sounds, voices and textures of people and families from east, west, north and south. For more information about the council, or to participate in its various projects, please call Program Specialist John A. H. Tomoso, ACSW, at (808) 243-7358. His e-mail address is tomoso@hgea.com.

A current project of the Maui Multi-Cultural Council is the production of the 1998 Maui Multi-Cultural Council Calendar. The calendar will feature the important historical, civic, cultural and spiritual holidays and commemorations of Maui's ethnic groups. Interesting tidbits, graphics and photos, including some historic photographs from the archives of the Maui Historical Society, will be included.

Another project is the Maui Multi-Cultural Council Fair, which will be held during 1998.
